Curriculum as the Heart of Teaching free essay sample
Curriculum as the Heart of Teaching This day I have learned that teaching is a very humanistic profession, and compassion is the utmost feeling of understanding, and showing others you are concerned about them. A compassionate teacher models that characteristic to the students with her/his actions, and as a result students will be more open to understanding the world around them. During this session, I realized that curriculum is my guide to light to lead the learners to the essentials that they should learn. Through curriculum, I can know when to give them a certain lesson, when to let them have the test and exams. I can know when to give them practical evaluations. In it, I can evaluate my students and assess them into which level they have achieved, have been achieving and will be achieved. As a teachers I will therefore learn the new curriculum, this is the primary implication of an ever changing curriculum. This means, t will need to gain knowledge in the new parts of curriculum, in many cases. I will also need to attend sessions such as professional development or better yet, return to school if possible. Teachers may have to change the way they teach depending on how the curriculum is changed. A change in curriculum is a good thing because often times, it is changed to accommodate the learners\ changing needs and abilities. ââ¬Å"Hashtag SIP for Todayâ⬠For todaysââ¬â¢ session, I have learned that SIP means School Improvement Plan. It contains the profile of the school and the community, problem and needs assessment, goals, objectives, standards and targets, implementing plan, communication and advocacy plan, documentation and reporting to stakeholders and signatories. I realized that being a school head is not easy. You have to plan something that will make your school better and one of this plan is the School Improvement Plan. In making School Improvement Plan, I realized that it must not only the school head alone will make the School Improvement Plan instead he/she must include all the members and all the possible involve in her/his school. It must not be a secret to the teachers and to the stakeholders. If someday I became a school head, I will make my school the best of all the best. I will take all this challenges just to make sure that I could improve my school. I will make my School Improvement Plan together with my teachers, I would involve the stakeholders and also the parents. I wonââ¬â¢t let anyone to ruined the plan and make sure to implement the plan for the goodness of my school. Iââ¬â¢ll be the one to make my SIP and I wonââ¬â¢t let anyone to make this and pass it just for an compliance. ââ¬Å"Leadership and Management; self-aware, integrity and self-careâ⬠Todayââ¬â¢s topic was all about Leadership and Management. I have learned today that Effective management and leadership begins with being self-aware. This simply means that you need to work hard to intimately understand your strengths and weaknesses, model ways in which your values are congruent with your behavior, and develop a culture of respect for yourself and for others on your team. Consider also what integrity means to you as a manager or a leader and why it matters. Integrity has been defined and described in many ways, but there is one idea that has stuck with me: A personââ¬â¢s integrity is a matter of the value of his or her word, nothing more and nothing less. If you keep your word for every task, large or small, people will naturally trust you with more complex responsibilities. Finally, as a leader, pay attention to self-care. Taking care of your team starts with taking care of yourself. I realized that for a person to become a leader and a manager she or he must have self-awareness, integrity and self-care. These are the things that a person who wants to become a leader and manager should have. I have realized that being a leader is not easy. You have to know how to become a leader and a manager to your self before you could be a leader to your fellow members. A leader and manager should also know how take good care of her or his self before she could take good care the other. Someday if I become a leader, I will make sure that myself could be a good model to my fellow members and I wont let people think that I couldnââ¬â¢t be a leader because I couldnââ¬â¢t even take good care of my self and I couldnââ¬â¢t even have integrity in which a leader must always have. ââ¬Å"Responsibilities of School Headâ⬠One of our topic for todaysââ¬â¢ class is all about the responsibilities of School Heads. Today I learned that the Heads of School are appointed by, and are formally accountable to, the Board. The Head will exercise his/her authority in consultation with the School Executive, in consideration of a consensus of the School Committee, and with due delegation of responsibilities as appropriate. The Head of School is responsible for the effective general management of the School, for ensuring the provision of academic leadership and strategic vision, and for the quality of the student experience. I have realized during the discussion of Doctor Olga that a school head is responsible for everything in their school not just in the school but also to his or her teachers in their area. The school head would be the one to decide in every decision making in their school. I have realized also that a school head must have a lot of patience, school head also should be very optimistic for he or she should not let his/her follower see her/him being negative if there are some problems in their school. Therefore, a school head must be a role model to his/her teachers. My realization does not change my dream which is to become a school head someday. I enrolled Master Degree and finished it and enrolled again for a Ph.D because of this dream. I will be very positive to this dream that. I keep on dreaming about this not because of the salary but because I could see my self being a school head or let me rephrase it, I could see myself being a very good school head and a very helpful, optimistic and energetic school head. ââ¬Å"8 qualities that makes a Leader Memorableâ⬠Todaysââ¬â¢ topic was very interesting; we have talked about the 8 qualities that makes a leader memorable. I have learned that those 8 qualities are, 1) Authenticity The most authentic leaders are the most memorable. These are the leaders that donââ¬â¢t play games nor exercise power plays. 2) Shares Their Wisdom Memorable leaders are those who enjoy sharing their wisdom and secrets of success. These types of leaders are great teachers and are the best mentors. 3) Does What Others Donââ¬â¢t You know that youââ¬â¢ve worked with a lot of different types of leaders in your career when the personalities, styles and attitudes of leaders begin to recycle. 4) Embraces the Lessons of Failure. Leaders that allow you to learn from failure are those that are eager for you to grow and prosper. 5) Gives You Their Valuable Time. Time is a leaderââ¬â¢s most precious asset. Everyone wants more time with them than they have available. The most memorable leaders give you the time that t hey donââ¬â¢t always have. 6) Creates Special Moments Memorable leaders create special moments. They are extremely well tuned to their employeeââ¬â¢s needs, the culture and the tone of the organization 7) Makes You Feel Valued The leaders that are most grateful for your hard work and efforts will be the most memorable. 8) Leads to Leave a Legacy. Leaders that lead to leave a legacy are leading for the right reasons. Today I have realized that Leadership is all about people and leaders who forget this will be forgotten quickly. Being a leader is being a model. It is very important that you will leave good memories and feedback that bad one in time that you will leave your members. We cannot deny the fact that we are a leader today and tomorrow we will leave the position and it is very important to be memorable with your followers and you can be memorable if you will have the 8 qualities that I have mention above. We all know that even if you are the best person or shall I say the best leader a group could have, there will always be a person or a member who will try not to like you and even destroy your name to other members. It is a big fact now in every organization and despite of this, if I am the leader, I will not let anyone to ruin my name and I will make sure to have the 8 qualities I have mention. I will be very good leader. ââ¬Å"Instructional Leaderâ⬠Todaysââ¬â¢ topic was all about ââ¬Å"Instructional Leadershipâ⬠. It says there that

Today it is the global No. 1 or No. 2 in the majority of its fast-growing categories, driven by an exceptional rate of innovation typically about one third of net revenue comes from innovations launched in the prior 3 years. It has a strong portfolio led by 19 global powerbrands which are: Finish, Lysol, Dettol, Vanish, Woolite, Durex, Calgon, Airwick, Harpic, Bang, Mortein, Veet, Nurofen, Clearasil, Strepsils Gaviscon, Mucinex, Scholl and Frenchs, and they account for 69% of net revenue. More than 75% of net revenues in 2007 were generated by brands that are either leading in the market or ranked second in their markets. In the fabric treatment section, Vanish leads the fabric segment globally so does Calgon in the water softeners segment and Lysol and Harpic brands in lavatory care egment. Furthermore, Dettol, Veet and Strepsils are the number one brand in antiseptic personal care products, depilatory products and throat tablet segment respectively while Nurofen, an analgesic, ranks second in Europe. Also, Clearasil is ranked as the number two anti-acne treatment worldwide. The companys Air Wick is ranked second in the air care segment worldwide. This strong portfolio of brands significantly fuels the revenues and profitability of the company. In terms of management structure, it is organized in such a way that there are three areas in the world: Europe, which includes Eastern Europe and Turkey; the Americasâ⬠North America plus Australia and New Zealand, which are very similar markets; and are called the developing markets, the rest of Asia (excluding Australia and New Zealand), Africa and Latin America. Each of these areas has a head of business, and below them are regional directors who run the specific regions. They, in turn, work alongside a category development organization, which is responsible for making sure that brand strategies are developed and implemented, as well as for developing a pipeline of new products for these brands. They work with the marketing and RD departments to make sure the right communications strategies in place . Supply Chain Management at RB 2. 1. Overview Rds supply chain and logistics is a global perspective and has about 41 production facilities worldwide including countries from Europe to North America, Africa to New Zealand. The company has a wide range of wide-range policies and procedures to protect their supply chain, Code of Business Conduct, reputation and Manufacturing standard. 3. Supply Chain Improvement Initiatives of Reckitt Benckiser (RB) Management According to the Rds Annual Report and Financial Statements 2011, RB believes its culture and passion for its people (RB employees) are its greatest competitive dvantage. The people are entrepreneurial, innovative, internationally diverse, dynamic and driven by a strong sense of ownership. RB continues to attract best management talents; retaining them by investing on the performance oriented remuneration policy which paid managers for excellent performance. RB has 25 formal training modules for middle management and Top 400 international managers (T400). During 2011, the Group ran over 80 courses on these modules, training over 652 people. At RB, Management is international and is trained through rotation in international postings both in countries and in the Groups central unctions. Succession planning is a critical management discipline and is reviewed annually (at least) by the full Board and the Executive Committee. RB closely monitors the Top 400 international managers (T400). The T400 being a multi-national management team reduced the added complexity of managing work in different languages, currencies and different political and legal systems thus giving a competitive edge over other companies. Technology Technology plays a major role in improving the efficiency of Supply Chain Systems. It helps organisations to better manage their supply chains, as supply chain anagement applications built on technology platforms enhances the ability of organisations to integrate their processes through collaborative information sharing and planning (Charles et al. 2001; Kalakota and Robinson, 2001). Some of the technologies RB used to improve their supply chain in recent years include: 1 . Implementation of Microsoft Windows Server TM 2003 Enterprise Edition with Active Directory This was done to simplify the complex IT infrastructure and introduce a centralized management system. RB nas operations in 60 co untries, sales in 1 countries and annual net revenue in excess of E3billion (US. $5. 8billion). RB was formerly using a Microsoft Windows NT Server 4. 0 Operating System through 96 domains and 720 servers. Approximately 9000 clients were spread throughout the domains and each one was managed with its own unique set of common rules and procedure. Through the investment in Microsoft windows server 2003 enterprise edition, they were able to reduce the number of domain to 3 and servers to 627. This helped in creating a central network system and provided a good and robust environment for managing Rds operations this because many of its application drive critical processes such as placing orders and providing real-time in response for roduction and shipment of goods. 2. Xtrim Xtrim optimization system is software which offers solutions for advanced planning and scheduling. This helped RB in cost saving. Another such cost saving program called the Squeeze 50 was also used by them. These programs helped push Rds operating margins up 0. 8 percent to 13. 4 percent in the year 2003. 3. The Xpress-MP Operational data of procurement, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution were collected and an optimization model was created using Xpress-MP software. The model basically demonstrated how costs could be reduced for a given supply chain configuration. This software helped the senior management at RB to analyse the potential impact of changes in risk free environment save up to ten percent annually 4. Reverse Engineering For the past few years, RB has been using a method of re-engineering in making, packaging and distributing their products. The company has been working with its partners across the supply chain finding way of consuming less energy, both directly and in the materials and packaging used to make its products. It has been reported that 25% of Rds manufacturing energy use already comes from more sustainable sources such as highly efficient or renewable energy (http://www. . com/carbon20/ how-we-will-achieve-it) Outsourcing To improve its on-time delivery performance, RB outsourced its transportation to Ryder in North America. Ryder transports raw materials into the manufacturing plants and finished goods from these plants to the logistics centre and then to the customer (Edge, a Ryder system Inc, publication). Investmen ts RB and other worlds largest the worlds largest food, beverage and consumer product manufacturers came together and created an open, standards-based industry-led marketplace (transora. com) that delivers breakthrough value to all participants in the consumer value chain. This business arena helped improved areas like procurement in the supply chain by providing services such as auction/ reverse auction capabilities, vendor catalogs, strategic sourcing and of course e- procurement for both direct and indirect materials. Shared Transportation To reduce the environmental impact and cost of product transport RB decided to combine truck Journeys with other companies, so that there were no empty running of truck on both inward and outward leg of the Journey. They even contracted third- parties to combine less than a truck load shipments together. Recommendations Focus on sustainability In relation to SCM, sustainability according to UN Global Impact, 2010 is the management of environmental, social and economic impacts and the encouragement of good governance practices, throughout the lifecycles of goods and services. A major approach to this challenge is collaboration with companies in terms of physical logistics such as shared transportation and physical infrastructures. Even though RB has started practicing this especially in the aspect of transportation, it is strongly recommended that, more effort should be put into this approach so to be able to operate a sustainable supply chain. Increase in logistics cost

Research Proposal on Endangered Species Essay Example
Research Proposal on Endangered Species Essay Recent era of high technologies and developing industries led our society to the new stage of evolution. However, besides obvious advantages for civilization, the twentieth century brought certain problems in life of our planet. Nature began suffering soundly from products of human civilization. There is a great number of factors that influence decrease of population of various species (McGavin 13). One of the endangered species is Cuban Solenodon, very rare animal. There exist only two species of Solenodons ââ¬â Solenodon cubanus and Solenodon paradoxous. Cuban Solenodon (scientific name ââ¬â Solenodon cubanus) belongs to the family of Solenodontidae, Soricomorpha order, Mammalia class of Chordata phylum. This rare species was uncovered by Wilhalm Peters in 1861. These small (around 50 cm long) shrew-like animals live mostly in Cuban Oriente Province. Since its discovery, Cuban Solenodon was mainly found in this area, being Cuban endemic. Historical investigation has showed that species of Solenodon, the ancestors of modern Cuban Solenodon, were rather distributed animals around thirty million years ago (MacDonald 49). They lived in the area of moders North America. However, the size of population was not estimated. Unfortunately current population size of this animal is very small. There were found only several decades of animals in the end of nineteenth century. In the period from 1890 to 1970 (Massicot) no animals were cought. After that, few specimen were caught in 1970-es and in 1999. Total number of representatives of Cuban Solenodon found since its discovery equaled 36 animals. However, only several years ago, in 2003, 37-th specimen was caught. Still there are no accurate data on current population of this animal. Solenodons live in a wild nature and are protected by law. Hence, solenodons are not kept in Zoo parks as the animal is difficult to keep in captivity and is considered a threatened species. Although Cuban Solenodon is classified as endangered species, many biologists think that the small population size of this animal is conditionad by its lifestyle. Indeed, Solenodon cubanus is a nocturanl animal, mostly being active at night while sleeping at daytime (Answers.com). Besides, solenodons live in burrows. These facts are considered by some scientists to be reasons for rarity of this animal, as it is rather difficult to find solenodon in wild nature. Moreover, reproduction of Cuban Solenodon is very low. These animals produce maximum one litter per six months, having mostly one offspring (sometimes two) per litter. Therefore, there exist natural factors conditioning small population and rarity of Cuban Solenodon. However, there are many other facts that affected the small population size of this species. There is very little known about natural events that caused small population of Solenodon Cubanus. Still, some factors and processes in twentieth century indeed affected its distribution. One of the reasons is considered the slash of tropical forest for agricultural needs. As long as solenodons live in wet forests, it was very dangerous for their population. Besides, the introduction of some animals (mongoose, dogs, and cats) caused decline of Cuban Solenodon population (Theusch). Being historically very unfamiliar with predators, solenodons can not fight with these animals and defend themselves. Therefore, the decrease of population size of Solenodon Cubanus depends totally on various kinds of human activity. Cuban Solenodon was for the first time classified endangered species in 1970. Current status of this animal is also endangered, being in the Red List of Threatened Species. This species is protected by law and federal regulations of many countries, including the United States of America and Cuba. Unfortunately, the status of this rare animal and its protection does not make its population grow. On my view, very little can be done now for saving this species from going extinct besides decreasing our activity on deforestation. I believe that people will recognize the volume of enormous harm they cause to the wild nature. And I sincerely hope that once we can see this little animal in a wild forest of Eastern Cuba with our own eyes.

Macro and Microeconomics - Essay Example Price mechanism; therefore, solve the problem of allocating scarce resources by ensuring they are allocated through competition in a free market. Moreover, price mechanism helps industries to produce efficient product that of high quality. The competition between firms ensures that the most efficient remain on the market while its edges others that are inefficient out of the market (Moon 2013). Efficient firms produce quality goods at a cheaper price compared to the inefficient ones. The high cost of production makes inefficient industries set a price that will cover the cost of production and thus they price at a higher price than efficient firms. The high priced goods become uncompetitive in a free market and draw the firm out of business (Mukhopadhyay 2). Price also serves the function of discounting to determine the cost as well as the amount or size of a commodity. However, price comprises the joint charge of goods and the profit attached to it. Therefore, price serves to determine the amount to be produced and the effectiveness of it. Price, therefore, serves as a planning tool to making the economic decision as to where the economy is to be taken (The fundamentals of market economy self-regulation). Price also stimulates firms and industries into production process due to high profit guaranteed when a firm is involved in large scale production. Lastly, price help in the distribution of income and resources to the most efficient industries in the market.

History Final Scholarship Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
History Final - Scholarship Essay Example Nativism typically means "opposition to immigration" or efforts to lower the political or legal status of specific ethnic or cultural groups because they are considered hostile and alien. It marked politics in the mid-19th century United States because of the large inflows of immigrants from cultures that were markedly different from the pre-existing American culture. These efforts were based on fears that the immigrants will distort or spoil existing cultural values. Nativistic movements can allow cultural survival in situations where immigrants greatly outnumber the original inhabitants of a certain place. The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln declaring the freedom of all slaves in any state of the Confederate States of America that did not return to Union control by January 1, 1863 (issued September 22, 1862), in the ten states that was named in the second order that was issued on January 1, 1863. The Proclamation provided the legal framework for the emancipation of nearly all four million slaves as the Union armies advanced, and committed the Union to ending slavery. However, the Proclamation did not make slavery illegal. Nevertheless, several slave states passed legislation prohibiting slavery, yet slavery continued to be legal in a few sates until December 18, 1865, when the Third Amendment was enacted. The Proclamation ended slavery and paved the way for the legislation of a law that prohibits slavery in all states. The Seneca Falls Convention The Seneca Falls Convention was an early and influential women's rights convention held in Seneca Falls, New York from July 19 to July 20, 1948. It was a single step in the continuing efforts by women to gain for themselves a greater proportion of social, civil and moral rights. The push for women's suffrage first gained national prominence at this moment. By 1851, at the second National Women's Rights Convention in Worcester, Massachusetts, the issue of women's right to vote had become a central tenet of the women's rights movement. John Brown John Brown, born on May 9, 1800, was an American abolitionist and folk hero who advocated and practiced armed insurrection as a means to end all slavery. He led the Pottawatomie Massacre in 1856 in Bleeding Kansas and made his name in the unsuccessful raid at Harper's Ferry in 1859. His attempt at Harper's Ferry to start a liberation movement among enslaved African Americans electrified the nation. He was tried for treason against the state of Virginia, the murder of five proslavery Southerners, and inciting a slave insurrection and was subsequently hanged. Southerners alleged that his rebellion was the tip of the abolitionist iceberg and represented the wishes of the Republican Party. Historians agree that the Harper's Ferry raid escalated tensions and that a year later led to secession and the American Civil War. What were the major consequences of the Mexican War' How did it affect the politics in the United States in the long term' Mexico was forced to give up a vast territory, now the present-day states of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico, to the United States.
